A social card game for friends — played together in real time.
BagelsKnock is a card game with three phases and supports 2, 3, or 4 players. The first player to sign in is considered the leader. The leader deals first, and the deal rotates left to right; players are seated randomly.
Phase 1 is a 3-card poker game using the middle upcard as the common card. Betting is simple, with special “Big Kahuna” rounds occurring roughly every 5th round with 2 players, every 4th round with 3 players, and every 3rd round with 4 players. The leader is responsible for switching on Big Kahuna action at the appropriate time.
The leader switches to Phase 2 once Phase 1 is complete.
The main component of the game is a 7-card knock rummy game. Players select either the upcard on the discard pile or a card from the main deck, forming sets, and aim to get all 7 cards into sets. A set is 3 or more of a kind, or a straight in the same suit (A-K-Q is acceptable).
Before selecting another card, a player may press the “Knock” button. Any loose cards (cards not part of a set) are added up and count against that player. Each other player then gets one more selection and discard to try to reduce the loose cards in their hand.
Note: For loose point purposes, Aces = 1, and K, Q, J, and 10 = 10.
After Phase 2, the cards are reshuffled and play returns to Phase 1 with new cards for each player — except when it is time to end the game. A Big Kahuna round is usually completed before ending, even if out of sequence, after which Phase 3 begins.
Phase 3 is played as a straight 7-card poker hand with no strategy. Net results are determined by combining each player's Phase 1 and Phase 2 points, with Phase 1 points counting 4 times as much as Phase 2 points. The player with the highest negative combined total selects the bet for the final hand — as little or as much as they want, though the accepted approach is an amount that leaves them neutral at the end. This hand is not intended to turn the losing player into a big winner, nor the winning player into a loser.
The last 2 cards dealt are dealt face down, to add suspense to the final result.
